Grega Bole triumphs in the initial stage of Tour de Slovénie

The Slovenian Grega Bole (Lampre) is the winner of the first stage at the 17th Tour de Slovénie, Marko Kump (Adria Mobil) is the runner-up and Jure Zrimšek (Sava) secured third place.

700 metres to the finish - Blaž Furdi (Slo/Sava) is in the lead, followed by a group of 30 riders headed by members of ISD – Neri. Borut Božič (Slo/ Vacansoleil) is among them.

171 km - 2 km to the finish - Nearly 30 riders have entered the front and hold a 100-metre lead over a group of 20 riders.

168 km - 5 km to the finish - The riders have started the last intermediate sprint of the first stage, approximately 12 riders are in the front.

162 km - 11 km to the finish - The peloton is approaching the first finish pass and the intermediate sprint. The peloton is very spread-out and the riders are dictating a strong tempo, which could be very dangerous in the 5-kilometre finish circuit.

159 km - 14 km to the finish - The gap to the breakaway rider has been closed. The heavy rain is expected to continue to the finish. Stephane Rossetto (Fra/ Vacansoleil) won the polka dot jersey and the King of the Mountains title.

155 km - 18 km to the finish - Rafai Chtioui (Tun/Aqua Sapone) is half a minute ahead. It has started to rain at the stage finish in Medvode, which means that it will be very dangerous, making it impossible to predict the outcome of the first stage.

148 km - 25 km to the finish - The leader still holds a 45-second advantage over the main pack as heavy rain continues.

139 km - The breakaway rider is one minute and 15 seconds ahead of the peloton.

134 km - The leading rider is one minute ahead and it has begun raining very heavily.

132 km Rafai Chtioui (Tun/Aqua Sapone) has already crossed the Suhi Dol mountain finish while the peloton keeps closing in. No attempts to break away from the peloton are being made. The downhill road is wet and slippery and it looks like the race will continue in rainy weather.

125 km - The peloton is climbing towards Šentjošt, which is 4 kilometres away from Suhi Dol, the next mountain finish. The breakaway rider has a four-minute advantage.

120 km - The breakaway rider is five minutes ahead. There have been no changes at the front of the peloton.

115 km - The riders are approaching the mountain finish in the slightly rainy Suhi Dol.

113 km - Rafai Chtioui (Tun/Aqua Sapone) is already leaving Vrhnika while the peloton, which is a good five minutes behind, is descending down the Vrhnika hill. The tempo in the back is dictated by riders of ISD - Neri, Lampre and Liquigas.

101 km - Medvode is the first time host of the Tour de Slovénie stage finish. In 2005, Medvode hosted the start of the stage to Villach. The following year, the stage started again in Medvode and finished in Nova Gorica.

100 km - The breakaway rider has a six-minute advantage and has already passed Logatec, the streets of which the main pack is currently riding.

b>96 km - The leading rider of Aqua Sapone is six minutes and a half ahead of the peloton, which is headed by members of Saxo Bank, Lampre and Xacobeo Galicia.

19 km - The leader Stephane Rossetto (Fra/ Vacansoleil) holds a 500-metre advantage over the peloton where breakaway attempts are non-stop.

17 km - The situation is getting clearer. Stephane Rossetto (Fra/ Vacansoleil) is still in the lead and has a 100-metre advantage over the group of four; the peloton is as much as 400 metres behind, nearly half a minute.

16 km - Stephane Rossetto (Fra/ Vacansoleil) is ahead while the main pack is 100 metres behind, lead by the Liquigasa team.

- A group of nine riders has caught up to the leader b>Vladimir Kerkez (Slo/Sava). The chasers have a 100-metre advantage over the peloton whose tempo is dictated by a member of the Liquigas team.

10 km - Riding speed is approximately 50 km/h and a group of 13 riders is about to start their ascent to Črni Kal. The peloton is controlling the race 200 metres behind.

7 km - The peloton has closed the gap to the chasers, but attempts to widen the gap continue.

1 km - Number 27 Uroš Šilar (Slo/Sava) escaped right off the start of the race, with the remaining riders forming a very long peloton.

Start – Koper - The race has started, 12.20.

12.20 – The 173-kilometre first stage from Koper to Medvode will be a battle between sprinters whose teams will likely do everything they can so that the stage winner will be decided by a large-group finish sprint.

12.15 Many consider the following riders this year’s favourites. Richie Porte (Saxo Bank), Vincenzo Nibali, Robert Kišerlovski (oba Liquigas-Butan plin), Giovanni Visconti (ISD-Neri), Riccardo Ricco (Ceramica Flaminia), Vladimir Miholjevič (Acqua & Sapone), Tomaž Nose, Mitja Mahorič (oba Adria Mobil), Gašper Švab (Sava), Radoslav Rogina (Loborika) in Matija Kvasina (Zheroquadro-Radenska). Lani je bil najboljši Jakob Fuglsang (Saxo Bank). Jakob Fuglsang (Saxo Bank) was last year’s victor.

12.01 - The 17th Tour de Slovénie has begun. The first stage is being broadcast partially live, and you can follow the main riders via their GPS transmitters. Mobile videos will also be available. The race has begun with the riders riding at 35 km/h in a close group along Koper’s sunny streets. The air temperature is 28 degrees Celsius. Over the four stages, the riders will cross a distance of 667 kilometres.

12.00 - Tour de Slovénie began in Koper with 109 riders from 14 teams. The first of four stages started there for the second time in a row. The first day is a 173-kilometre race.
